Note to Mark:

Sweet Jesus Louise, dude, put a moratorium on the all-cap posts until Restless at the least, okay?

Note to everybody else:

Wanna bet he busts out the all-caps for one of the Faith eppies? Or will he defy all logic and do it for Goodbye, Iowa or something like that? OR BOTH???

Word. The Initiative is not a bad episode but it's hardly worth all caps...

Indeed. I think it's a delightful episode and wonderfully entertaining but...

Yeah, it's not that great.

He's like an excited puppy. EVERY time he sees the ball he'll bounce like something demented... It's kinda sweet? I'm not really a dog person, but in small doses I'm OK.

Hmmm. I am a dog person, but I've never been fond of the yippy types.

I'm not saying I *like* it, but he's obviously a puppy, so expecting him to be anything else is clearly not going to work.

I'm hanging in to see if he will actually stick with his 'I love complex, morally grey character development MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE!' when it comes to Spike and Buffy in S6... Because that's a rather significant litmus test.

Also, reading his stuff requires zero brain cells, and I'm currently too busy to concentrate on anything more.

Well, yes. But I reserve the right to comment on it.

Oh absolutely. The number of times I have ALMOST made a comment on one of his posts, saying 'Mark dearest, there's no point in talking about how OLD you feel, since the Buffy viewing demographic will be largely older than you, plus you sound like a teenager who's had too much sugar... And we're used to meta.'

:wince: I gave up. A puppy piddling on the floor with excitement is only endearing for so long.
Mar. 16th, 2012 04:02 pm (UTC)
Heh. I'm almost at that point. I started skipping over his personal life stuff. Then I just started skimming the whole thing. Most of the posts basically just summarize the events of the episodes with a generous dosing of exclamation marks. Not enough to hold my interest.

That's the metaphor I was looking for.
Mar. 16th, 2012 03:29 pm (UTC)
Agree, but mostly i read his post because, some of his commenters? are also first time viewer, and much more down to earth.
Mar. 16th, 2012 04:03 pm (UTC)
That's what I've heard. I tend to avoid the comments sections for non-LJ stuff, though. Cause I'm a wuss. :/

I normally find it charming (Mark without CAPS? Like Spike without British slang, Giles without glasses, Xander without jokes, Buffy without Buffyspeak...) but an entire review in caps? And about The Initiative? Especially when he's shouting how WONDERFUL Riley is and how PERFECT he and Buffy are for each other.
(And about a SONG at the party. What?)

I'm still really curious how he'll react to the future plotlines - everyone is waiting for him to see Willow/Tara, but I'm expecting him to love it, and I'm much more interested how he'll react to Spuffy because I have no idea if he'll love it or hate it or what.

But I'm equally interested in other first viewers - whose reviews are often more interesting (and less tiresome to read, in this case since THERE AREN'T SO MANY CAPS) than his.

(I had no clue what his thing about the dog scene was about!)

I'm still really curious how he'll react to the future plotlines

I'll take a guess: He'll be SO SHOCKED!! The show actually WENT THERE! HE HAS ALL THE FEELS! Ohmigod!! Lots of flailing! THEN JUST UNABASHED LOVE along with a wariness cause he KNOWS JOSS WHEDON IS GOING TO TORTURE HIM.

There will probably be stories about feeling unwanted in season 5 and about his bad relationships in season 6, and lots of letters to Joss and writers of specific episodes. But hopefully he'll realize that not everything the least bit shocking/surprising should be in CAPS, because if The Initiative is all in caps... should be expect to see a lot of reviews all in BOLDED CAPS?

OTOH he can write a decent review when he's not capslocking and going OMG all the time (the review of Bachelor Party is far more readable than the one for The Initiative).
Mar. 16th, 2012 09:32 pm (UTC)
Yep, agreed. Though I'm not reading his Angel reviews cause I don't dig on that show enough, he has written some decent stuff in the past.

He'll hate Pangs because of its handling of the Native American issues.

But yes to New Moon Rising. He'll be all capslocked over that sucker.
Mar. 17th, 2012 02:12 am (UTC)

*Translation: Mark, you are watching a show that's discussed in mothefucking college. Step up your game for fuck's sake - being all HAPPY and FEELS and CAPSLOCK isn't gonna cut it.

Compared to most of the meta I've read (including your stuff on Buffy in Season 6), it's like popcorn.
Mar. 17th, 2012 09:48 am (UTC)
Heh. I guess S5 and S6 will be the real trial there, won't it? :)
Mar. 17th, 2012 12:43 pm (UTC)
I'm personally betting that the first part of his "The Gift" review of him staring in blank horror because Joss killed Buffy again.

I tend to read/skim several episodes at a time, which is more enjoyable, because you can cut through the spastic flailing. Which I enjoy, but more and more I find myself muttering "poor fucker" to the computer screen, because he still hasn't completely caught on to how Whedon works. I love his joyful discovery of the show, and the first time reactions are moments that we've all shared, and it's fun to see someone else go through the shock, but so much of my understanding and love of the show comes from the rewatches. The layers of genius aren't always visible the first time through. Plus there's a kind of viewer evolution that happens after you've seen it once (or dozens) of times through.
