People, friends of mine! I have decided that I need a poll of Spuffy! A Spuffy poll!
Okay, so this is for the Spuffy fans. If you don't dig the ship, pass this one by. Really, it makes no sense if you don't ship them.
Right, now close your eyes and imagine your happy Spuffy place, wherever and however that may be. We're gonna do a poll on the bedtime habits of our favorite Slayer/Vampire combo. Then we're gonna comment and speculate wildly about them. It's gonna be awesome.

1. Cute pajamas, tank top/PJ bottoms combo
2. PJ pants, boxers, nothing. I think Buffy would inadvertently domesticate him into occasionally wearing bottoms of some sort.
3. Yes, they both care. I don't think it's that they care so much, though, as that they fall into a pattern.
4. Spike. I think the comfort/contentment of being with Buffy would put him out pretty fast.
5. Buffy. Keeps to a more human schedule.
6. Spike reads, once they've become domestic enough to sleep together without always having sex beforehand.
7. They both hog.
8. Yes, totally! Buffy wouldn't cuddle every night instinctively, but Spike is such a tactile creature that he would snuggle automatically, and she would be fine with it.
9. Neither snores.
10. Oh man, how am I supposed to choose! I love the sexytimes, but my favorite are the sexytimes that have the emotional underpinning and aren't just about sex...there has to be light and fluffy talk and/or meaningful discussion, too. I chose understated bedtime rituals, since that implies couple-y-ness and the combination of everyday sexytimes/talking/cuddling.
I so love imagining their future together. Lovely poll! :)
6. I always picture them both reading. Buffy reads a magazine, though, while Spike alternates between old classics and trashy romances. Occasionally Buffy makes them do one of those Cosmo couples quizzes.
6. Oh yeah, I didn't think of magazines. I can definitely see that. Spike would do a running commentary on the books he read and the lunacy of the characters, with Buffy going "uh huh, dear"/"mm" as she read her magazine. Hee, Cosmo couple quiz! Spike would love reading Cosmo. He'd be alternately entertained/disgusted/lewd ("I like this article, "10 tips on how to please your man," let's read this one"); which would be crass, but he'd also always carefully read the "how to get your man to hit your kinks" or whatever articles and be adorably anxious about making sure Buffy was satisfied, so it would even out.
LOL, can you tell that I spend way too much time imagining their future together?
LOL, can you tell that I spend way too much time imagining their future together?
You are not alone!
Spike would totally pore over Buffy's magazines.
Exactly my thoughts. :)
Yes. It's not like they have strong preferences about which side, it's just that consistency is useful. I mean, otherwise, how do you know which bedside table to put your stuff** on??
(People who don't have a "side" confuse me.)
**In case you were curious, Spike's got reading glasses and whatever book he's reading on his side, and Buffy has to set her alarm clock because Dawn complains she never gets to see her when Buffy sleeps all day. She also has a phone on her side of the bed in case of emergencies. Because there are ALWAYS emergencies.
My thoughts exactly.
Really? Do you think he needs them or just likes them aesthetically?
Buffy definitely has her phone and the clock, and she also has her magazines (which comes from a discussion with Gabs above) and chapstick, tissues, hair ties, and handcream. Spike has his books and a lamp and a bottle of lube that Buffy always tells him to put in the drawer because having it out in the open is crass, but Spike always conveniently "forgets." *g*
Aesthetics, mostly. Buffy found an old picture of him wearing glasses (as a human) and Spike was all embarrassed until she said he looked HOT. :)
(Oh, and Buffy thinks they're hot, too.)

HEE! This is why I said Spike doesn't really care what side of the bed he's on (where as Buffy does) because Spike wants to be on whatever side Buffy's on. I can totally see her being all "this is your side</i>" on the nights when she doesn't want to be all tangled up with him while sleeping. I think he's not really gonna notice what side of the bed he's on -- dude used to take naps on top of a stone slab. I think he'd be more focused on getting Buffy to share (want to share) her space with him.
:D That is his main focus in life.
Aww. :)
2. Spike sleeps naked. He'd not mind walking around the house naked too, but, now he likes his silk pajamas because Buffy bought them for him and he likes the way she looks when he can tell she likes seeing them on him.
3. At first there were no designated sides as it was lots of wild sex and tangled exhaustion, but after a certain amount of conflict over space and the occasional evening when one or the other of them went to bed slightly less than ready to cuddle, they decided that having sides would be a good option.
4. Buffy makes Spike feel secure and content and he'll reliably drift off quickly and easily if she is in the bed. Buffy is more prone to lay awake worrying and a bit restless.
5. That said, Buffy wakes up first. Human/vampire thing, mostly.
6. Spike reads, regularly, often in the evenings. He keeps a book by the bed and usually gets through a few verses or a chapter while Buffy is getting ready for bed. (Buffy takes kind of a long time to get ready for bed Spike thinks. Brushing for the requisite 2 minutes, flossing, putting her clothes away, laying out clothes for the next day, doing who-knows-what in front of the bathroom mirror. But it all works out because Spike likes to read before bed anyway.)
7. Clearly Buffy is a covers-hog. Spike doesn't really notice changes in body temp so he doesn't fight her for them. However...
8. Spike is a nighttime cuddler. If Buffy hogs covers, Spike hogs Buffy and she'll often wake up to find him fully on her half of the bed, draped over her or spooning her or otherwise being as close to her as possible. Sometimes she shoves him off, sometimes she just slips out and goes to his side of the bed for some space and sometimes she lets him hold her.
9. Buffy has a tiny snore that Spike knows better than to tell her about. It is usually cute and endearing, but sometimes Spike has to poke her until she rolls over so he can go back to sleep. Spike tends to stop breathing at all when he falls deeply asleep, so snoring isn't as much of an issue.
10. All Spuffy bedtime activities are the best ones. I do like the understated rituals as they reveal so much about their relationship. Also, sexytimes, FTW.
4. *nods*
6. Haha!
8. Again, awwww!
Okay, your whole comment has me grinning like a loon. *loves domestic!Spuffy*
I suppose he was wearing something in Harsh Light of Day. But I like to forget about that.
1. Cute flannel and tank top/pj bottoms. She needs comfort and flexibility in case of middle of the night slayage. Plus she just looks cute in pjs and tanks.
2. Spike, otoh, sleeps nude. Because he just does. And also, he doesn't want to miss a thing. /pervy
3. Buffy requires a certain side, Spike just prefers the side next to Buffy. Everyone wins.
4. Buffy. I think Slayers probably require more sleep because of the massive energy they expend slaying.
5. Spike. I have no reason why, he just strikes me as the one who'd get up first.
6. Spike. He likes to read, especially around bedtime.
7. Buffy probably bogarts the covers.
8. Somehow, I think they both like their space because they're sprawlers.
9. Isn't it canon that Buffy snores?
10. Light and fluffy pillow talk. If there was one thing these two knew how to do, it was banter. And I could totally see their banter/fights going all the way until Buffy falls asleep.
2. *nods again*
3. Awwww!
9. Is it? I think I recall Riley and Willow joking about her snoring after she fell asleep in class in Hush, but I don't recall any serious confirmation of it.
Exactly!
You read my mind, samsom. These are my answers. I didn't think of light and fluffy pillow talk as banner so that is why I ticked off something else but I totally agree it would be bantering and fighting all the way until either they had sex or fell asleep.
I can see that. :)
Interesting how there's such consensus on some of these, and such lack of same on others.
1. No silk PJs for Buffy? Did she grow out of that phase after S2? (I honestly can't remember -- S2 had the most Buffy bedroom scenes, so that's the only clear mental picture I have.) Tank top and pajama bottoms seems plausible, and also something Spike would love for its Slayer-ness.
2. I don't think Spike wears underwear, so that's out. Nakedness is always an option. I laughed at the mental image of Spike in silk PJs, but it could happen, if Buffy liked them.
3. There are couples that don't have sides? Interesting. Every relationship I've been in, there have been sides, by mutual agreement.
4. Buffy, for sure.
5. Buffy, for sure. Spike is lazy.
6. I can't picture either of them reading in bed, for some reason. Buffy's a light sleeper -- she'd be pissed if Spike was reading while she was trying to sleep!
7. All women hog the covers! But I can see Spike trying to hog them too.
8. Spike demands his cuddle time.
9. Buffy snores, Spike doesn't breathe.
10. The problem with sexytimes is that most people (me included, present company excepted) don't know how to write it. I am a huge sucker for understated bedtime rituals, though.
3. *looks shifty* Some couples don't...
8. Oh! I'm not a cover hog! Though I usually sleep with people who are. :/ Then I end up trying to make do with one tiny corner of the blanket that I attempt to curl up under.
Fortunately, I'm in freaking Texas, so it's not that cold.
10. Course, sexytimes could fall under the "understated bedtime rituals" category... :)
2. Nothing. Until the day Buffy said something along the lines of, "Um, Honey? Do you think it would be possible for you to start wearing something to bed? You know I don't mind, but some of the guys, well mostly Dawn, have expressed some concern that coming over first thing in the morning could lead to some...uncomfortable situations." and then he starts to occasionally wear pj bottoms.
3. Yes. They both care. They start out just sleeping where they fall after the sexytimes, but then they start to go to sleep without sexytimes, and they have to figure out who sleeps where. And because they're them, it turns into an intense discussion, and when they finally work it out they both care which side because they fought hard for that side damn it!
4. Buffy usually falls asleep first. I imagine Spike as always being a little bit unsure that she really does want to be with him, and live with him, and he ends up staying awake until after she's asleep most nights.
5. Buffy gets up earlier. Human/vampire thing.
6. Spike reads. Sometimes he reads poetry out loud and it leads to sexytimes.
7. Yes. They both hog the covers, because they can't turn off the sparring even while they sleep.
8. I said yes, but I don't see them tangling completely together. Sometimes they do, but usually they stay on their own sides, except for their feet and legs. They wake up with their lower limbs tangled up al the time.
9. No. But only because I can't remember any instance of either of them snoring.
10. All of them, but mostly the rituals. I'm not sure what category it falls in but I really like imagining them having little couple conversations while they're falling asleep. Eyes closed, faces half in pillows, two seconds from sleeping, and they're still mumbling to each other.
"Your feet're cold..."
" 'm a vampire..."
***
"d'you set the alarm?"
"mmhmm"
***
"what're you doing?"
"playing with your hair."
"Mmm. S'nice"
3. rofl!
4. Oh! Then he can watch her sleep! *has something of a kink*
6. YES!
10. ...I think I would read an entire fic with just this. And love it. *nods*
Can you see it now? Buffy snoring away, Spike slipping out with a flashlight and the last Harry Potter? I can!
I'm half tempted to write a post now on the secret literary lives of fandom characters. I see Mal from Firefly also being a secret reader.
I don't think Spike cares about the covers, on account of not having a body temperature as such, but he's probably a tiny bit bothered about modesty, since we always see him with at least a sheet when we see him sleeping.
I think a lot of times they both wear nothing in bed, having removed every stitch from each other first. However, they probably both have trackpants and tshirts to hand in case of visitors, the need to go to the bathroom, sudden demon emergencies and the like. I rather like the idea of Spike in silk pjs too.

Buffy likes him to bleach his hair still from time to time, but what is there not to love about tousled streaked bed-hair? This will do.
*looks around*
*licks*
*nods* And, of course, sexytimes could incorporate all the rest.
1 & 2. I'm such a sucker for canon, so I went with Buffy wearing whatever the current "normal" pj thing is (in this case tank top and pj bottoms, just like she was doing the Nick&Nora pjs when those were hip) and Spike going with the naked sleeping thing (like in "Wrecked")
8. This was the one I debated on (for probably way longer than was necessary, haha), because cuddling bothers me because it's kind of cliché and sweeter than I usually picture them, but I figure Spike couldn't resist being all touchy even when he was unconscious :)
10. These are all great choices! But the understated bedtime rituals (that then lead to sexytimes?) is by far my favorite; I just really love the idea of the two of them being all couple-y and normal (but also sexy!)
You are? Oh hey, I just read one of your fics and really liked it. Why aren't we friends? :)
8. Spike's such a cuddler. It is cliche, but I can see him cuddling close to Buffy while asleep.
10. Yes! For serious, there's a domestic Spuffy fic about them brushing their teeth at bedtime that I adore. Normal and couple-y? All over that.
