1. At the beginning, Buffy is pondering a potential relationship with Riley. She says: "Part of me believes that real love and passion have to go hand in hand with pain and fighting." Is this true for the Buffster?
Yes. She needs that in her relationships.
No. She'd be just fine without all the pain and such.
Hell, she'd be better in a relationship without all the angst.

Not sure.

I've always seen it as inaccurate when people use the Angel/Angelus example as proof of Buffy being attracted to the bad boys. Buffy was originally attracted to Angel when he was portraying himself as the mysterious older man ready to help her when needed, and then disappear back into the shadows. It could be argued that the mystery attracted Buffy to Angel, but certainly not that she picked up on an element of danger from him. When she insists he stay in her house for safety he takes the floor, and she and Willow swoon the next day over what a perfect gentleman he was. In When She Was Bad Angel rejected Buffy's attempts to spar with her, and was instead supportive boyfriend at the end ready with a hug, in Reptile Boy he is holding off on kissing Buffy.
I see the typical tv bad boy more as someone who wants to get you into trouble, who is charismatic and fun (sorry Angel!) and has the dangerous aura that gets girls swooning. That was not the case with B/A, both Angel being a vampire, and later losing his soul, were not things that Buffy had foreseen, or were shown to be a part of the initial attraction. If anything I'd point to Buffy's crushing on Angel as more of a Daddy fixation than a love of bad boys. Yes he was much older, but that doesn't automatically = bad boy to me. A lot of their interaction in the first half of season 2 consisted of Angel being the quiet and understanding older man while Buffy confides in him (Ted, What's My Line).
