Okay, I have a thing for the unheard underdog (that explains why I like Spike). That's why I posted about the cultural context for the people who are having issues with the comics; I saw them being whapped down outside of LJ, and I wanted to give them some validation. On LJ, though, the inverse seems to be the case. So here's an open post for those who don't have issues with the comics (or at least not issues that overwhelm one's enjoyment) to give me the what on the feminist perspective there.
Please don't use this to refute arguments you've seen elsewhere. Blank slate: tell me what you're getting from the comics from a feminist perspective. I know some things are up in the air till the next issue comes out, but hey. Speculate.
Can't say that I'm gonna be able to interact too much (unless you bring up the series; I'm all over that). However, I'm eager to show off my shiny new icons that I've gotten thanks to LJ's a la carte userpics. Plus, one of the lovely joys of feminism is the flexibility of the philosophy when applied to media interpretations (kinda like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup). Not to mention feminism's desire to give room to previously-unheard voices.
Comics-positive comments only, folks.

I actually love Buffy's storyline in S8. I know fans are so protective of her, but I enjoy Buffy more when she faces new challenges, screws up, but still keeps on fighting. I love how gray her character became, which I find believable given everything she'd been through, I love how she took responsibility of all those Slayers, training them, protecting them, and this time actually communicating with them and getting to know them. She's still the strong leader from S7, the law, but she makes time to comfort Xander for losing his girlfriend during battle, and that's what I love about Buffy, her heart, her love for her friends. Delegating her leadership with her friends. In S7 Buffy took it upon herself to be the sole leader of the potentials but here she trusts others to work with her.
I also love her relationship with her Slayers, she develops a solid rapport with them. In S7 Buffy shut herself off and appeared unlikeable to the Potential Slayers. In S8 she’s struck the right balance between being friendly with them whilst still earning their respect. Rather than hide behind an ice queen persona (like she did in Get It Done) Buffy shows her feelings over Aiko's –one of her Slayers- death and lets Willow comfort her.
And there's nothing I love more than the gender reversal between Buffy and Xander. I know it's there since S1, but it plays more in S8. That panel with Buffy picking Xander up in her arms, and Xander saying, "You've got me, but who's got you?" It's a quote from Superman, and Xander is Buffy's damsel in distress. SO MUCH LOVE!
The other female characters are as awesome as Buffy, especially Dawn! Dawn, I really love her in S8, and she's the sarcastic character this season, which is so made of win! But everything I want to say about her is already said above.
I also wanna note that I've never cared for Faith's character until S8. Her arc is one of the best and I understand why her friendship with Giles is so popular among the fans, even those who dislike S8. I felt so bad for her in the last issue when Giles revealed that he was hiding things from her, she trusted him completely and yet another man disappoints/betrays her. Poor Faith.
