Oh, Mondays...

Why is Spring Break only one week long? *sigh*

More random fic observations cause I have to share:

- Songfics! I haven't seen those in forever, but I'm coming across them by the bucketfuls now. Please tell me, am I the only person who skips over the song and just reads the story?

- You know, I've gotten to the point where I don't mind biting in fics. You know, the erotic type of biting. As long as it's on the neck. When I see fics with breast-biting during sex, I get squicked beyond belief and have to spend a few minutes protectively covering my chest.

- I like Drusilla. She's very rarely done well in fics, but I love it when she is.

- Ditto for Anya. For some reason, people have trouble writing from her POV. I rarely come across a fic that has a good Anya voice. Weird, cause I actually think she's one of the easier characters to write for.

- It's a little confusing, because when browsing fics, X/A will almost always mean Xander/Angel, not Xander/Anya. Yep.

- When writing slash, pronouns are a bitch. I had the same difficulty when writing femslash. Dammit, it's forcing me to not be lazy! *grumble*

Song ficiness
I generally skip the song, but I've put 'em in a couple of my historical fics. (One Gilbert & Sullivan, one explaining the Becoming 2 "Goodbye Picadilly, Farewell Leicster Square" line.) I thought it was educational. Sue me.

Like angearia, I thought it was used to hysterical effect in Don't Stop! (How did Nauti foresee the whole zeitgeist of that particular song? Is the producer of Glee a fan of her work? It wouldn't surprise me a bit.)

And, one of my very favorite Spander stories has a musical interlude that's quite hot, so I ended up buying the album of the featured song, and it did make the scene even hotter, as advertised by the author. (Since I know you wanna know, it's No Power On Earth by Circe. http://allaboutspike.com/fic.html?id=466)

Just goes to show that, as with anything, no matter how ho hum a thing might be in most writers' hands, it can be wielded brilliantly by a talented few.

P.S. There's no shame in using a lot of "Spike" and "Wood". Doesn't that make 'em sound like a couple of 40's era gumshoes?

God, their names are so homoerotic when you read them together like that. It is shocking how there's no slash for these two.

I'm now imagining a fic where Spike is split into Spike and Willy and they make a Wood sandwich. Yep, I said it. It's kinda weirding me out though...

See, now I'm tempted to try a songfic just to see if I can make it awesome...

Dammit! I've been using "Robin" instead of "Wood" cause it's from his viewpoint. Hmmmmm...
