Ohmigosh! I'd forgotten that Crusader is the lesbianest Xena episode EVER. And...well, that's saying a lot.

You know, I have lots of thoughts about fanfics bouncing around in my head lately. There's a post in the making. Just need to mull some more things over. While I'm doing so, though, just a little poll. :)

Really moving fiction often makes me cry. Movies, books, TV shows, sometimes songs or pieces of music. I'm a crier. And fanfiction's the same. I am unashamed.

Jan. 12th, 2010 09:24 pm (UTC)
I cry really easily at TV or music. Fanfiction....not so much. Usually, it has to be a long fic that I'm really invested in before I'll get all teared up. I guess it's the different format. I'm really attached to seeing the actors do their thing.

Oh, I don't know. In Season Six, the Rheingold trilogy could give "Crusader" a run for its money.

Jan. 12th, 2010 09:27 pm (UTC)
True point. But all of S6 is pretty much where the writers went "Fuck it" to the whole subtext thing and just outed Xena and Gabrielle. *happy sigh*

Never cried over fanfic. Have cried over the written word maybe a whole twice in my lifetime. Which is really weird, because I cry like a friggin baby over TV/movies, and yet writing is an extremely important medium in my life.

Same here! I cry at the angsty drop of a hat while watching TV, but it takes a lot to get me to cry while reading something. I think I need the visuals and the music and the voices to help heighten the emotional tension or something.

A few have had me misting up, but one left me nearly sobbing. It was so painful and perfect really. Just an amazing fic about unrequited love and missed opportunities and what can happen if you are afraid of taking a chance. It was heartbreaking and so very good.

Oh yes. One of the best Harry Potter fanfics I have ever read was so sad I was crying the whole way through. Of course it didn't help that my cat had been put to sleep that particular day. But even if I hadn't lost a cat that day, it was so well written and emotional and awesome that I would have been crying anyway. It even inspired me to write a few angsty fics of my own, even though before that I had been the writer who pretty much only wrote badly written fluffy and romantic and happy stories.

Usually I choke up if it's sad, but I've only full out sobbed like that a few times. Mostly if it's close to home, something I've experienced.

Happens all the time - more often in fic than in other reading, actually. I don't break down sobbing, but tear-trickles happen on a pretty regular basis, usually related to some character (often Spike) being at the end of their rope.

Actual death scenes and grieving are less likely to do it for me. Hope and beauty are more likely to make me cry - I think it's significant that my first BtVS tears were during "The Prom," when Jonathan presents Buffy with her Class Protector award.

Jan. 13th, 2010 01:51 am (UTC)
I cry at that point in The Prom, too. With fic, though, it's more overwhelming angst that'll get to me.

People cried at He's No Jack Sparrow. Can you tell I'm trying to sell you on it?

Actually, I didn't cry, but I was pretty moved by m_mcgregor's See Noir Evil.

lol! I'll admit I'm pretty big with the waterworks while watching TV. Apparently, not while reading books or fanfics, though.

However, a few get to me. Flowers for Algernon made me bawl like a baby.

I stopped reading Summer Son because it made me cry every. Single. Chapter. It was an AU and Spike and Buffy were both completely OOC, but that author could wring tears out of a rock.

To this day I associate that fic with post-crying headaches.

'Beautiful World' by Cinnamon (starflowers) always makes me cry. (The end of it, specifically.)

Other fics have made me cry, but I can't think of what ones specifically right now, hehe. But yes, definitely fanfiction has made me cry.

Ok, I admit it *raises hand* I am susceptible to crying at pretty much anything. But it is rarer for me in fanfic. Usually it takes me by surprise and I think 'where the hell did that come from?!' But mostly I think its when fics get a little too close to home on personal experience/issues that either hurt like hell/or the opposite, made you crazy happy.

Off now to read some of Anaross's fics *grabs tissue box with glee*

It's possible, but I really don't remember any specific story bringing tears to my eyes. I'm not a very weepy person, but if I do, it's more likely to be at a TV show or movie than at a written story.

A LOT! But, then I cry over cartoons. lol

However, it's only Xander-angst that gets me wailing, I may feel sad about the other characters but only watching them cry on screen makes me tear up. With written words, Xander is the only one that can really get a teary, sobby reaction out of me.

anaross & herself_nyc. I reread "Stay" whenever I need to have a good cathartic cry. (I cried for about half an hour after the first time I read it!) But, I am a crier. That's me. ;)

eta: also, dampersnspoons's "The Butcher." And the ending of "Legion of True Hearts," of course. (EVERY TIME.)
